It was announced earlier this month that the all-new Lincoln Continental had been awarded a Top Safety Pick+, the highest award possible from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), thanks in no small part to the vehicle's available crash prevention system and optional adaptive headlamps.

The Lincoln Continental, the Lincoln Motor Company's flagship sedan, boasts of an available Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection system that has been designed to minimize the severity of -- and sometimes even eliminate -- frontal collisions. This system makes use of radar and camera technology to deliver an impending collision warning to the driver, and is capable of automatically applying the vehicle's brakes if the driver doesn't respond.

Available adaptive LED headlamps on the Lincoln Continental were rated good, and provide ample lighting on straightaways and most curves. The high beam assist feature automatically toggles between high and low beams, depending on the presence of other vehicles.

Vehicles that receive a Top Safety Pick+ have earned good ratings in all five IIHS crashworthiness tests, have an available front crash prevention system that is rated superior or advanced and offer headlights that have been rated good or acceptable.
